Pirated software may be exponentially cheaper, but, are we really getting the most out of that bargain? At face-value, it seems like it’s as good as the real thing. But in reality, there are actually tons of inherent threats associated to using pirated software – aside from criminal liability.

It’s very likely that you’ve wondered, once or twice, about what this icon stands for.

Just in case you’re still wondering, this is the icon for RSS which stands for Rich Site Summary, or Really Simple Syndication

RSS, simply speaking

RSS is the smarter way of keeping yourself posted on all the latest articles, pictures, videos and whatnot published on your favorite websites. How does it work? It’s pretty easy, you’ll just have to remember these three simple words: subscribe, update and compile.

Without the necessary the tools, personnel or know-how at our disposal, most of us, nonprofits, find designing as a task that’s equally challenging and expensive.

But, imagine if designing would be as simple as clicking and dragging, and, the only thing you would need is a computer with an internet connection. It’s definitely overwhelming, thinking about how much time, money and energy we'll be able to save, right?

Guess what? That may all be possible now with Canva!

Just click and drag away

Choosing between GIMP and Photoshop is not about which software is generally better, instead, it’s about which is better suited for your nonprofit’s case. As similar as these two may appear, they each are best suited to different kinds of users.

In this entry, we’ll help you decide by identifying the questions you need to ask regarding your nonprofit. Remember, it’s less about the software itself and more about your nonprofit’s compatibility to it.

P.S. The specific versions I’m comparing in this blog are GIMP 2.8.6 and Photoshop CS6

Are your staff spread across several locations? Do you have a limited budget for IT support like installations and upgrades? Are your staff and volunteers requesting to work from personal devices, such as their smartphones or tablets? Your charity might be ready to migrate to the cloud. But you might also have some trepidation about going completely online, especially if you're working with sensitive information.
