The enterprise CAL can be used only in conjunction with a standard SharePoint Server user CAL. It authorizes a user to access the Enterprise Edition functionality of SharePoint Server.

Device CALs are also available. A device CAL authorizes one computer to access SharePoint Server, regardless of the number of users (for example, a shared workstation).
