How do I adjust to working from home? A key question asked by many nonprofits – and even businesses and corporations alike – as lockdowns started to roll out globally 12 months ago. With over a year into the pandemic, it is worth looking back into the year that was to see how the pandemic has changed our work experiences, what we have learned from it, and most importantly, what do we do with these learnings as we move forward (and hopefully, past this pandemic).

This could have been an email

When you think of the word brand, some things might come to mind — logos, taglines, or maybe a standout name brand like Nike or Coca-Cola. But brands are more than these individual elements: A brand is a promise. It's the perceived personality of a company that can be felt, even if it can't be easily defined. Whether or not you are actively thinking about it, your nonprofit has a brand. And it's important that it stand for the same things your organization cares about.

Email is the killer of productivity, according to this Forbes article. The constant notifications, along with the difficulty of discerning which messages are actually important, consume employees' time and act as a distraction. This can mean that the life-changing work of nonprofits takes a back seat in favor of an admin backlog.

With such a huge pool of potential supporters, it's important to develop a strategy to reach the right people with the right message — at the right time.

Much has been written over the years about how nonprofits can fundraise in tough times. Fundraising pioneer Mal Warwick famously advised nonprofits during the 2008 – 2009 recession to reassess the whole ball of wax. At the time, that seemed like good advice to cope with an unprecedented economic collapse and how it was impacting the day-to-day business of nonprofit fundraising.
